The strong environmental awareness that characterises our time has found further confirmation in a proactive approach since Covid-19, when the need to ensure the hygiene of the environments in which we live and work has become pressing and has become part of our lives as a daily best practice.
BATP® - Biologic Active Tissue Paper - is a probiotic application that stems from the possibility of ‘sanitising’ the environment starting with our everyday life. The use of this toilet paper enhanced with micro-organisms that are activated on contact with water, represents an effective and natural solution, the regular use of which solves problems of bad odours, drain malfunctioning and organic overloading of septic tanks. The international patent BATP® Biologic Active Tissue Paper developed for the paper industry is the only biological additive that can be applied to paper, transforming toilet paper from a commodity into a biologically active green product.
It is a concentrate that meets Ecocert requirements and contains selected microorganisms from the official ATCC collection, which certifies its quality and authenticity. It contains no excipients or fillers and no chemicals such as surfactants or preservatives, which can cause irritation.
Reliable and safe for both the paper mill operator and the end consumer, BATP® has been on the market for 18 years. The product has been regularly tested and evaluated by international experts and institutes, which have certified its safety and suitability for application. Over the years, no cases of problems or limitations in the use of BATP® have ever been reported.
BATP®. HOW IT IS APPLIED AND HOW IT WORKS
BATP® is always fresh and vital. With the BDS system using mains water and sterilising it, it takes only 3 minutes to prepare the product to be sprayed onto the paper. BATP® is sprayed with a dedicated automatic system from Spraying Systems & Co. through 4 self-cleaning nozzles that do not clog, adapt to any type of converting line and produce a micro-mist that is carried by the speed of the paper without dispersion into the environment.
Spray application avoids any possible contamination of the product and ensures that only the ‘good’ microorganisms of BATP® are applied to the paper and not those present in the environment or in other application systems which may contain non-biologically pure additives such as glue, perfume or ink.
In this way, BATP® remains pure and uncontaminated even when on toilet paper. Application by spraying ensures the viability of the spores and their immediate germination on contact with water. It must be emphasised that - in the absence of germination - BATP® does not act. In addition to producing degrading enzymes, the product attacks the protein matrix of the biofilm inside the pipe and interferes with the growth of the pathogenic germs present, thanks to antagonistic association mechanisms of amensalism and competition by interspecific exclusion.
When paper treated with BATP® comes into contact with water, ‘good’ microorganisms are activated, producing specific enzymes capable of degrading the organic substances present in sewage, keeping siphons, pipes and the drainage system clean. Once activated, BATP® controls odours, degrades cellulose and all kinds of organic substances in sewage.
The 5 different types of ‘good’ micro-organisms in BATP® paper reproduce quickly and their cleansing action is intensified, acting where chemical or mechanical interventions cannot reach. The ‘good’ micro-organisms have a sanitising action, as they help reduce pathogenic germs in sewage systems by consuming what they feed on and by controlling the presence of insects and larvae that lurk in the pipes. They also perform a uric acid oxidation action through specific enzymes. Once their action is complete, the ‘good’ microorganisms disperse in the water, without generating any impact on the environment.
BATP® offers a certain answer to the end consumer in terms of safety generated by paper contact, as the product is thoroughly tested on the skin, eyes and intimate parts of adults and children.
FROM DAILY USE LONG-TERM BENEFITS FOR THE MILL AND THE CONSUMER

THINKING BATP® IS THINKING FOR THE PLANET
The Third Millennium has seen the world's population living in urban settings surpass that living in rural areas, and every year more than 50 million people move to live in the cities worldwide. An epoch-making figure. The consolidated economies in Europe and the Americas and the fast-growing areas in China, India, South East Asia and Africa make it imperative to pay attention to the factor of sustainable growth and the constant monitoring of the environmental footprint and development impact to ensure the future of the planet.
It only takes small gestures to achieve significant results. This applies to all of us, every day and at every latitude. Even the daily use of BATP® is a concrete gesture with which we can take care of our own health and that of our planet.
